Sheltered cove, great for SUP. Low tide makes it even better for small children. People on the beach are friendly and are there to have a good time. The beach is kept clean and there is a designated barbecue area if you want to. Loads of parking, and the town has everything you need and want.

Didn't go into Combe Martin apart from to Top Chippy (👍) and co-op (there's an ATM inside the co-op). Beach is not dog friendly at all, so no good for us. Also, reports of sewage outflows into its river, so not very appealing. Family went to Dinosaur theme park on outskirts, which grandson enjoyed. But it's incredibly hilly, no good for older people with bad knees! (Photo of view down into Combe Martin from Dinosaur park, below)
Got the impression that parking can be tricky in Combe Martin at busy times. Apparently We preferred the beautiful sandy beach at Saunton sands, 25 minutes away, good parking close to dog friendly beach, decent cafe, restaurant, loos, surf schools, some rock pools on right hand side for little crabs, warm pools for toddlers. Parking by the hour, unlike Woolacombe, which charges £10 whether you stay for 30 minutes or all day!!
We stayed on a farm on Ridge Hill a few miles away, but don't drive from CM over the hill, you need a machete to hack the bracken and brambles out of your path. Go round the slightly longer way if heading in that direction!
Lynmouth and Linton worth a visit, pretty little harbour town with 500ft cliff lift. Some free parking along front, by lift. Get lift up, then walk down the Poet's zigzag path for wonderful views over the bay and town. Nice coastal drive out of Lynmouth onto Exmoor, look out for ponies, and several parking areas close to coast path and a few easy walks round the headland with views back down towards Lynmouth. Wonderful Rambler's rest cafe at County gate, boundary with Somerset, delicious cream teas on pretty china, (photo below),best scones, friendly doggy and welcoming owners.
Dare to drive across the ford at Oare and gingerly cross Robbers bridge (fully an inch either side of car!), in Lorna Doone valley. (Photo of pretty ford below)

It's not the most picturesque place in Devon as it's an old Silver mining town, but it still has some great features. Beach is fantastic if you like interesting pebbles and rock pools, but also lots of sand and good surf. NB there is no beach when the tide is in! The Pack 'o' Cards pub is really good for an evening meal and one of the few places with good car parking, along with the Co-op, both well away from the beach. Parking is very poor, but if you're staying there then there are some great walks where not many go as there is hardly any car parking!

Unique accommodation and excellent hosts.
Unique accommodation and excellent hosts. Very quiet with sea views. Going to sleep with the sound of the sea was a real treat. Breakfast was lovely. I visited in October and Combe Martin was quite sleepy, but a perfect base for walking the coast path and exploring Exmoor.

Combe Martin is set along a very long High Street with the cove/coast at the bottom where most of the shops are. Not a great deal of choice with the shops - I would imagine at one time Combe Martin was very well serviced with small shops but, like alot of coastal towns now, the smaller independent shops have all closed down. There is a Co-op there. The cove area is quaint and attractive and is where the coastal path starts in both directions. Beautiful scenery from the coastal path.

Combe Martin is a lovely coastal seaside bay.
Combe Martin is a lovely coastal seaside bay. Ideal for families & sea-sporting people. The menu at the pub excellent. Choice of eating inside or out, overlooking the bay & sea. Pets were allowed in or out of restaurant. Proprietors & staff were friendly & pleasant. I would advise that people who have mobility issues should be aware of steep roads to car parks etc. but if you are able Combe Martin is excellent. Lastly Combe Martin is centre of many other seaside areas.
Well-maintained, clean, safe, charming property retaining some period character. Janet and Neal are super accommodating and engaging hosts. Dog friendly, it offers various downtime activities within the property if the beach and crowd becomes too much. Newberry beach is literally minutes walk from Poplars (dog friendly all year) and the Combe Martin Beach is the adjacent beach perfect for SUP, kayak, swim (restricted period for dogs).
It's a lovely property right up the street form the beach in Combe Martin. Obligatory bed rating: very comfy, beautifully crisp but soft sheets. Slept like a rock. Michelle was an attentive and helpful host. Nice breakfast, and a well-stocked little honesty bar in the sun room, which was a godsend as very few establishments in town were open off-season (which I'd anticipated).
The caravan was very clean and comfortable. There was plenty of space for my daughter and I. The location was superb as it is central to walking the high street in Combe Martin to the 3 pubs (the Pack o Cards is totally recommended) and in the other direction it's a 5/10 minute walking to the sister site. It is very hilly so may be a little difficult for some.
Location excellent. Caravan was very clean. We only stayed 3 nights but would have liked to stay longer. Site was a lovely size, not too big. Easy walk down to little beaches for crabbing with children or relaxing in the bar overlooking the little cove in Combe Martin. Staff seemed helpful. Well run site. Beautiful views.
Loved accommodation, beautifully renovated barn in a stunning location overlooking Combe Martin.
Nice little touch of popcorn and crisps for a treat and there are even dog treats if you are travelling with your pet pouch.
Beds were very comfortable, underfloor heating kept us nice and toasty!
Great apartment, located very close to the seafront. The apartment had everything we needed. The hosts made us feel very welcome, helping take our bags in and our children were delighted with the little surprises left for them. It was a great base to explore the north Devon coast from.
Lovely place to stay, nice location, very comfy bed, breakfast was great. Michelle was very helpful, the packed lunch option was perfect for us walking the coast path. Great communication before our visit. Combe Martin is a pretty little place to stay.
We had a very pleasant stay, made very welcome with clotted cream and scones on arrival. The location is perfect, everything in Combe Martin within walking distance. 24 hr car parks are very close but get in early as they fill quickly at busy times.
The breakfast was amazing as always and enjoyed the evening meal with other family members. Love the location as always my dad lives in Knowle gardens just round from the church so we have fond memories of combe martin and surrounding areas.
Loud music, plumbing droned like a foghorn throughout the night no-one around to help, when I complained next day to staff I was told ".Well it is an old building" I left went to Beach hostel in Ilfracombe. And spent 3 great nights there.
An especially nice location for Combe Martin, close to the harbour with adequate parking.. The room faces the street but is very quiet after 2130. Newly furnished and decorated in a cheerful Caribbean seaside theme.
Absolutely amazing hosts and a beautiful house. Will definitely be making a return trip. A little gem to be treasured in North Devon with hearty home cooked breakfast to start the day.
Lovely place, loved the decor, fantastic owners and service, Highly recommended. Easy walk into Combe Martin and lovely view of the sea. Look forward to a return stay!
