The hakone free pass is excellent and a must for all visitors. There is an abundance of sites and tourist offerings about the area. We did the railways the open air museum the boat and ropeway and achieved all of this within about 24 hours. It is a beautiful destination and a must from the hustle and bustle of the city life

It’s the perfect break from the city buzz of Tokyo.
It’s the perfect break from the city buzz of Tokyo. There are arts and nature and the sights to explore. A hidden treasure that will impress those looking for a slower pace to unwind. I feel like kids and teenagers may find it boring.

Hakone is a fun area.
Hakone is a fun area. It’s very easy to get around on buses, cable car, and ropeway (gondola). The FreePass is a must. The lake and Mt Fuji are beautiful but so is the surrounding forest. The museums are quite nice too. We especially had a fun time at the Open Air Museum.

We liked Hakone very much.
We liked Hakone very much. It was not clear to us how long it takes to get to the ropeway and cable car and our hotel in. We had no idea it took almost an hour to get from our hotel to all the sights. We would have liked to see the open air museum, but we ran out of time. We only had one day and should have booked 2. Hakone needs 2 nights!!

A stunning rural area with plenty to see and do.
A stunning rural area with plenty to see and do. The round trip by bus, boat, train, cable car and funicular works brilliantly and enables you to visit all the local sights which are stunning, especially the crater of Owakudani, where you travel by cable car over the crater from which sulfur gas fumes constantly rise,

They had cute waterfalls that were a short walk from our Onsen. The town was small and easy to get around. The streets are a little narrow. Public transportation makes it easy to get to. There was plenty to do if we had stayed longer.
Beautiful traditional hotel in the mountains. Our room was very spacious (twin with an onsen and it was so worth it). We have also checked out the communal onsen which had both an inside and outside pools and a very chill vibe. Amazing traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast - don't expect cereal or eggs, this is very different to a European breakfast. We loved walking around the hotel in our yucatas. Overall an amazing stay. I'd also recommend the Hakone sculpture park afterwards - it's a 20 minute walk away or a bus ride.
We booked a suite with a private onsen. This was on a balcony with a mountain view. This meant all family members of both sexes could use the onsen at once (in swimsuits!)
The dinners and breakfasts were exceptional, in quality, variety and quantity of food.
There was a 600m downhill walk from the bus stop but the hotel provided transport each morning back to the bus stop.
The location was good - short distance only from Lake Ashi
One of the staff members took great pains to explain everything in English when we arrived.
Central location that is a very short walk from the train station and cable car/ropeway that takes you to Lake Ashi. Great restaurants nearby, didn’t eat at the hotel however heard the food was lovely. Free soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and snacks in the evenings for a set amount of hours. Local convenience stores nearby. Great spa and onsen facilities within the hotel. Rooms spacious. Surrounding grounds of hotel beautiful.
Lovely big room with Beautiful view of the lake. All the staff were so friendly and warm they made us feel very comfortable. Our dinner was served in our room and it was all so fresh and delicious. Japanese breakfast was also amazing served in the dining room. The onsen was a magical experience, I went after dinner and had the bath to myself. Definitely would recommend a stay here! Location is very good to explore hakone.
The onsen is really amazing. Worth the trip to the Ryokan.
The couple who manage the ryokan is really the sweetest. We were told there would be heavy snow the next day and the owner send us to Sounzan station so we can cut short our trip around hakone and then next day when we were caught in the snow , he sent us to the train station. I have nothing but thanks for the two of them. Wish I had a longer time in Hakone!
The ryokan inspired rooms was beautifully designed. Felt so warm, cozy yet modern at the same time. Shower was immaculate, king-size bed was unbelievably comfortable. Honestly wanted to stay in the room the whole day!! There is also a sushi restaurant within the hotel — must book in advance though, and slightly pricey. The location is also unbeatable, about a 6 minute walk from the Hakone-Yumoto station.
We had a great stay in the Hakone Sengokuhara Prince Hotel! Our room wasn't even the most expensive and yet it was super fancy, very big, and with views of the mountains. Everything was so peaceful and cozy! We also got a very nice breakfast with incredible views. On our way back, the hotel provided a shuttle for free that took us to the station so that was super appreciated! We loved it!
The Mikawaya Ryokan is a well-preserved historic hot spring inn located in a central part of the mountainous Hakone region. The Tozan bus stops right in front, making it easy to hop on with the tourist-friendly Odakyu Freepass. The onsen baths are well-kept and are soothing. The meals are exceptional. The ryokan staff speak good English and are very hospitable.
It was extremely relaxing. Staff were very helpful and food was great. We are vegetarian and the restaurant manager ensured we understood what was available and made us a platter on the second night. Onsen was very peaceful. The hotel overlooks the lake and is very near the Hakone Ropeway, so it's a fun day on that and at the geology museum etc.
Loved the private onsen on the balcony of our room, and enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner options. It was nice to have the free shuttle from Odawara station rather than taking public transit, but the ropeway was very close to the hotel. The ferry was also very close to the hotel so it was easy to get around with the Hakone Freepass.
I enjoyed my stay at Hotel de Yama. The location was a huge plus for me, as I was interested in visiting the Hakone Shrine and Torii gate before it got too crowded. The service was great, the staff were lovely and friendly, and I loved the view of the garden and lake from my room and the hotel's public onsen.
Pretty awesome onsen experience. Very good price for hotels with private onsen and no need to worry about your privacy. The room is large and comfortable. The traditional breakfast is also a must-try. All the staff are really nice and helpful. The location is also great with restaurants and museums nearby.
Hakone village is a great stop for travellers interested in Mt Fuji region. Hotel is in a pleasant neighbourhood with wonderful surprises nearby. There are places to eat and explore within the proximity of the hotel. this was our first Onsen experience in Japan and it was great.
There is a shuttle bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station and from Hotel Okada lobby back to station. Easy access! Shuttle Bus Schedule can be check in their website. Onsen is not crowded because it’s spacious. Dinner & Breakfast Buffet are available only with advance reservation.
Fujiya has such awesome onsens, one of the best hotels I have stayed in. I highly recommend it for anyone staying in Hakone and wants to enjoy the onsens, everything is nearby, even a 7-11 store is right opposite the hotel should you need anything.
Great resort like hotel to relax. Has shared onsen and private onsen in room. Delicious breakfast buffet. Good location for touring Hakone. Helpful staff assisted with shuttle and taxi reservations. My second stay here and would stay again.
Not too far from Hakone-Yumoto station. About 10 minutes walk. A quiet and peaceful area. The private onsen room we had was amazing. The meals were really good and portion was very generous.
A cozy stay in a family run hotel very close to the Hakone-Yumoto station.
Staff was very kind and the room was spacious and clean.
The onsen was a great experience.
Very nice large room with lake view. In-house onsen with large outdoor pool. The hotel is located directly on Lake Ashi and offers a beautiful view of Mount Fuji.
