Village is small you need a car but there are restaurants within walking distance. It is a good central location for visits all around the island. If you want a quiet place which is easy to travel to all the attractions of the island this is a great place

We liked Sao Vicente Ferreira.
We liked Sao Vicente Ferreira. We ourselves like the low key of staying out of the city and away from normal tourism. If you like being near the water, a quiet low key environment, charm of old towns and buildings, and immersing in the culture of the island, then this is a great place to be. We were near the 2nd largest city on the island so grocery stores and restaurants were easy to access. If you are nervous driving, I would highly recommend some extra insurance for your rental as there are many rock walls along the roads. The locals are familiar with the driving and tend to go fast. After two weeks we were used to driving around the island.
We ate at several different restaurants. Quinto dos Sabores was excellent, Acociacao de Agricola was great for beef.
We golfed 3 days, took a driving trip to the west end of the Island and drove around the east side. Sete Cidades and Lagoa were lakes set in craters on the top of volcanoes...beautiful sites. We spent a day in Furnas which has fumaroles which cook cozida (a Portuguese meat stew), hot springs and beautiful public garden. Wonderful experience!
